Humanoid and legged robots

Before you pay the balance, test each unit at the factory.

A witnessed, logged acceptance test against your specification for every unit. Not a statistical sample, and not a claim of conformity to an unpublished standard.

What the checklist misses.

Joint repeatability outside buyer tolerance

Balance or recovery failure on the agreed course

Unsafe response to e-stop or power loss

Serial-specific burn-in evidence that does not reconcile

Inspection scope

Checks tied to evidence.

CheckMethodA fail looks like
Motion and repeatabilityRun agreed joint ranges and repeated target positions against buyer tolerances.Range limit, drift, repeatability error or fault code.
Walking and recoveryRun the buyer-defined course and record stability, interventions and recovery.Fall, unplanned stop, deviation or inability to recover.
Safety behaviourWitness emergency-stop and power-loss states under the agreed procedure.Continued unsafe motion, delayed stop or uncontrolled state.
Unit evidenceReview burn-in, end-of-line logs, firmware, sensors, markings and packing.Missing log, identity mismatch, wrong build or incomplete packing evidence.

Related requirements

EU Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 applies from 20 January 2027. ISO/CD 25785-1 remains a committee draft and covers industrial settings only. The acceptance test is against the buyer's own specification.

Not included

This is not certification or a conformity assessment. Final scope, safe test procedure and facility requirements must be agreed for each robot platform.

Clear limits. Clear evidence.

Does inspection guarantee a defect-free lot?

No. Inspection reduces risk. It combines sample evidence with verified factory data and narrow machine checks, but no inspection removes all product risk.

Where can the inspection take place?

At the factory during production or before shipment, or at a neutral warehouse when independence of custody matters more.

Who decides pass or fail?

A qualified person reviews the evidence and makes every result decision. Software compares documents, triages anomalies and drafts the report; AI does not issue verdicts.
